MOCSA

The new HQ for the Metropolitan Organization Countering Sexual Assault (MOCSA) is Kansas City’s first facility developed specifically for programs that support survivors and prevent sexual violence. This experiential graphics system promotes trauma-informed design to support clients’ rehabilitation and growth, as well as staff relaxation and recharge.

SCOPE: Yoga Room Mural / Experiential Design for Donor Exhibit / Custom Art Package / Wayfinding + Room Signage System

Yoga Room Mural
To craft an environment fit for yoga, this full-wall mural acts as a place of grounding within the room. Nature is proven to be both healing and relaxing for our minds, and provides a place for survivors to rest their eyes during their practice.

 Donor Exhibit
Outside the board conference room, the “Stories of Inspiration” exhibit gathers capital campaign donors into an abstract constellation. Each plaque is a star; size and placement scale with the gift. The surfaces are veined with gold, a nod to kintsugi—the Japanese practice of repairing broken pottery with gold lacquer—representing the beauty of mending. Read together, they’re the shape of a community that showed up for MOCSA.

Custom Art Package
A department-wide precedent audit, understanding various departments’ needs and tastes, shaped 25 original artworks. Staff selected which piece from the collection to display in their own offices and others were displayed around the facility.

Art-Forward Wayfinding
Going from physical to digital design, the signage and wayfinding system utilized hand painted watercolors that complemented MOCSA’s brand, which were turned into high-resolution images and printed on glass.
